> Model Overview
The Audi A6, which was the first model to use
the 'A' in it's name, was launched in June 1994. Offered
in both saloon and estate form, it has seen one major
revision in 1997 and remains an extremely important
model in the Audi range. Falling into the upper saloon
and estate car class, it competes directly with models
such as BMW's '5' series. A wide choice of engine, drive
and trim specifications help to make the A6 an extremely
competent model in it's class.

Introduced as a replacement to the 100 model range, the
A6 is essentially a face lifted version of it's
predecessor, offered in both saloon and estate form.
Length 15ft 9ins, width 5ft 8ins. Specification includes
new colour coded bumpers, new bonnet, and grille, colour
coded mirrors and body side moldings, white front
indicator lenses and ellipsoidal headlamps. Enhancements
include new key coded immobiliser, drivers airbag,
adjustable steering column, solid front and rear head
restraints, digital service indicator, odometer and trip
meter. Estates available with optional extra rear seat
for child passengers.
The entry model powered by a 2.0 litre 4 cyl 115 BHP
unit. A choice of 5 speed or 4 speed Automatic both with
front wheel drive. Two V6 engines are available; A 2.6
150BHP unit also offered in 5 speed manual or 4 speed
auto front drive and a 2.8 174 BHP unit offered
exclusively in quattro four wheel drive form and
available with either manual or automatic transmissions.
One diesel engine is offered, a 5 cylinder 2.5 unit
offering 115 BHP and front wheel drive through either 5
speed or optional 6 speed or 4 speed automatic
transmissions. A flag ship model called the S6 is also
available powered by a 230 BHP turbo charged 2.2 litre 5
cyl unit. quattro four wheel drive standard through a
choice of 6 speed manual or 4 speed automatic
transmission.
All A6 models are standard with all round electric
windows, Electric sunroof, power assisted steering,
central locking, electronically operated/heated door
mirrors, anti-lock brakes and Sony stereo radio cassette
with removable face. SE version has 8 spoke alloy wheels,
Autocheck system, computer, front sport seats, analogue
clock, oil temperature gauge and oil pressure gauge.
Estates have black roof rails. 2.8 quattro versions as
for SE but with additional lowered sports suspension,
front fog lamps and walnut fascia and door trims. S6 versions
additionally have wider wheel arches, 16" Avus alloy
wheels with 205/5OZR 16 tyres.

A 140 BHP (red i) version of the 2.5
direct injection diesel now added with standard 6 speed
gearbox or optional 4 speed automatic. Also a 90 BHP 4
cyl direct injection entry diesel now available.

Now with ultrasonic interior protection
added to alarm system, electric child locks on rear
doors, new dashboard trim strips, A4-style head
restraints, third sun visor and new interior trim
options. Estate has third rear head restraint. SE models
now with electronic climate control in lieu of a sunroof
but sports seats now deleted. quattro changes as for the
above but retaining sports seats and fitted with 16"
'Competition' style alloy wheels and sports leather
steering wheel.

A new 5
valve per cylinder 1.8 litre petrol engine first seen in
the A4 range, replaces the 2.0 engine. Power 125 BHP
through front wheel drive with a choice of 5 speed manual
or 4 speed automatic transmissions. Also Available in SE
trim. The 174 BHP 2.8 V6 is now replaced by a new 193 BHP
multi valve unit which is available in front wheel drive
standard and SE trim levels as well as quattro. quattro
four wheel drive now offered on the 140 BHP TDI model
with specification as for 2.8 quattro.

The all new A6 is unveiled. Launched
initially as a saloon with a number of engine options,
the model boasts totally redesigned body shell offering
increased passenger and luggage space. Entry level engine
now using a turbo charged version of the familiar 1.8
litre unit with power increased to 150 BHP. A choice of 5
speed manual and 5 speed Tiptronic automatic
transmissions driving through front wheel drive
available. Two V6 petrol engines are available including
the familiar 2.8 unit and an all new 2.4 multi valve unit
offering 165 BHP. One diesel model is available, powered
by a 1.9 TDI unit with 110 BHP. All models are available
with the Tiptronic automatic gearbox apart from the 1.9
TDI which uses a 4 speed automatic gearbox. The 2.8
petrol is available with quattro four wheel drive as an
option.
All models are standard with 15" alloy wheels,
remote control locking, electronic climate control, (EDL)
traction control, front and side airbags, front fog
lamps, electric seat height adjustment and built in
'Concert' stereo system with CD preparation. SE models
are fitted with 16" 'Ten Spoke' alloy wheels,
drivers information system, front centre armrest,
automatic dipping rear view mirror, split folding rear
seat and metallic or pearl effect paint at no cost.
quattro specification as for SE but with 'Competition'
style alloy wheels, sports seats, lowered sports
suspension and sports steering wheel. All models have a
comprehensive option list including satellite navigation
system, acoustic parking system, Bose sound system and
electric memory seats.

An all new front wheel drive V6 2.5 direct
injection turbo diesel offering 150 BHP is introduced.
This model has a 6 speed manual gearbox fitted as
standard and is available with 5 speed Tiptronic
transmission as an option.

model powered by an uprated 4.2 V8 with 340 BHP is
launched. Wider wheel arches and 17" Avus alloy

2000-Present
Allroad model launched. Based on the A6
Avant, the Allroad is a no compromise all-rounder
designed for high off road ability. A choice of 2.7 litre
V6 'biturbo' petrol and 2.5 litre V6 TDI with 180 BHP
engines are available through quattro four wheel drive.
Four-level air suspension is standard which enables the
Allroad to raise it's suspension to clear off road
obstacles and reduce it for optimum aerodynamics when
driving at high speeds. 180 BHP TDI now also replaces the
150 BHP unit in the A6 quattro saloon and Avant.
